Welcome to the Lichfield Centre for Christian Studies. LCCS is a new partnership between the Diocese of Lichfield, Lichfield Cathedral and Staffordshire University. It was brought into being by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the partners on Monday 31 October 2007, by the Bishop of Lichfield, the Dean of Lichfield and the Vice Chancellor of Staffordshire University. The flagship of the LCCS is a fully accredited MA course in Theology, Context and the Pastoral Imagination. But the Centre sponsors a number of other activities, including Lichfield Unplugged and a series of occasional Lecture Days. The Centre stands in a tradition of theological education in Lichfield which dates back at least as far as Bishop Selwyn: the great 19th century scholar-bishop of Lichfield, who had the Palace in the Close extended so that it could serve as a venue for ‘in-service training’ for the clergy of the Diocese. The LCCS is perhaps the most important initiative in theological education in Lichfield since the closure of its Theological College in 1972.
