Why should I choose the LCCS MA course? |
The themes of our unique interdisciplinary course will together contribute to the students’ understanding of self, context and the wider world. It will be transformational, deepening both understanding and spirituality, enhancing lives and ministries. |
What is the Lichfield Centre for Christian Studies? |
LCCS is a new partnership between Lichfield Cathedral, the Diocese of Lichfield and Staffordshire University, providing a fully accredited MA course in Christian Studies, plus other educational opportunities including Lecture Days. A memorandum of understanding was signed to bring the partnership into being on Monday 31 October 2007, by the Bishop of Lichfield, the Dean of Lichfield and the Vice Chancellor of Staffordshire University. |
What is the aim of the LCCS MA course? |
The primary aim is to equip clergy for the challenges of incumbency in a changing church and world. The title of the MA is Theology, Context and the Pastoral Imagination. There will be modules in Doctrine, Biblical Hermeneutics, Leadership, Literature and Christian Spirituality and Mission, taught by practitioners and experts, all helping you to link your learning with your local context. |
Is enrolment only open to clergy? |
No. While the course has been designed with the needs, challenges and perspectives of clergy in the Diocese of Lichfield primarily in mind, applications are also welcome from licensed readers and from anyone with a first degree or other appropriate prior learning and an interest in theology from outside the diocese. All candidates will be interviewed to enable us to offer appropriate learning support. |
How will teaching and learning take place? |
There will be an August summer school in years one and two, at which the Doctrine, Leadership and Literature and Spirituality modules will be delivered. The Mission and Biblical Hermenentics modules will be delivered on Wednesdays, in two semesters: one before Christmas each academic year and one afterwards. There will be no tutor-student contact demands in Advent or Lent, or in mid summer. |
The MA will cost £375 per module, which works out at about £1,500 per year. A range of grants are available to help with funding. |
Can I apply for grant funding? |
Each student will undoubtedly have to find some personal contribution towards the costs of the MA, but every assistance will be offered in identifying other funding sources, including educational grants. |
